Why my computer some minutes to start?

I have windows XP. As and when I switch on my computer, it takes some time i.e. approximately 6-8 to start. What is the possible reason and how it can be fixed?
 
do you mean 6/8 to get to the desktop or for everythiong on the desktop to load, also post your computer specs.
 
If you have a smaller computer as in CPU and ram and have a massive amount of start up programs it will kill the boot up time. Look to the lower right in your task bar, how many programs start with windows, all the ones you dont need to start with windows go into the program and uncheck start with windows. Plus do a disk clean up and defrag the run a anti spyware and anti virus scan.
