Why overclock a 965

I've never overclock so this is new to me. I really don't get overclocking. I'm going to build a AMD 965 Quad that runs at 3.4 Gigs and I'll put 8 Gigs of DDR3 1333 so why would I need to overclock a powerhouse like that? I was thinking of the 1090t 6 Core but today the other two cores just don't make any since. So what can you do with a overclock 965 that you can't do when you don't overclock it?

It helps in some situations. I got to bump my settings on BFBC2 after I overclocked my cpu to 3.8GHz. Mainly I see it for bragging rights and benchmarking.

The big HD for the ego

I have the same HD as you do but I am going to get the (WD 1T 7200 rpm - 64 mg Buffer and zip throw data at 6 Gigs because it's a dual for $99) I have a 2T External drive that takes a USB3 and zip throw data at 5 Gigs and that is why I'm building my new computer. We all have egos but as soon as I overclock the dam thing will blow up with my luck.

Take it slow and you will be fine. Stress test it after every successful boot and check your temps regularly. Be sure not to raise your voltage unless you have to and do it in small increments at a time. Pushing your cpu oc too hard too fast is what kills them.
