Why that shade behind every icon in the Desktop?

Laptop

Hello guys

I think someone posted the same question before but I cant find where it is. So could you please find a solution for this.

I build a new PC (with the help of my friend) and we installed XP. But when we logged on there is a blue shade on every single icon on the Desktop. Here is the picture that shows what i mean. May be you are familiar with this.

Could you please suggest a solution for this annoying problem? Thank you very much in advance

Here you go:
Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Settings button > Visual Effects tab > scroll down and put a checkmark in the box for "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop". Click OK, then OK again. Done:)

Hi OvenMaster I'm having the same problems as Laptop, I've tried what you suggested but the "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" was already selected, so i deselected it applied it then checked it again and applied, to see if this would work but unfortunatley it has not. Do you have any other suggestions?

Cheers, salman.

Right-click your desktop. Make certain that you do *not* have "Lock desktop items" enabled, and try again.

You also cannot have Active Desktop enabled. Right click on your desktop, click "Properties", select the "Desktop" tab, at the bottom left of this tab click on "Customize Desktop", this will open a new window called "Desktop Items", in this new window select the "Web" tab and make sure that there are no items checked in the "Web pages:" frame.
