Why wont certain websites show up?

When browsing certain websites are failing to show up, giving me the "internet explorer cannot display the webpage" message. I've tried this in Internet Explorer 7, Firefox and Opera and its always the same, which i assume means its not a browser problem and perhaps a windows problem. I have McAfee internet security 2005 and run PeerGuardian 2, but the problem persists even with both of these disabled, and when i perform a clean boot of XP.

Most websites work ok, but there are some that never do. The most recent two are www.manchesterairport.co.uk and www.hertzvans.co.uk . Both of these work on other computers in different locations, however i have the same problem on my PDA when i plug it into my PC via active sync

how do i go about fixing that? i tried dnsstuff.com but lo and behold ive found another site that doesn't work

My hunch is that it might have something to do with your ISP, because they host your DNS lookup servers. The only thing you can really do to test this theory out is to do a search for other DNS servers, get their IPs and manually enter them into your TCP/IP properties.

im not that advanced im afraid :(

if i call the isp will they know how to go about sorting it if the problem is on their end?

Yes, I'm sure you can find someone helpful there (as long as they don't forward you to India... Then you might as well bang your head off the monitor). See if they can test it from their end. Sounds like a good place to start.

See, this is why I have my own server that hosts my own DNS lookup. If it breaks, I just have to remotely login from my own computer and fix it. You gotta love it.

called them and they said they are aware of it and is a problem on their end. it started that users couldnt access certain secure sites, and now its transformed to problems with all sites and it affects users randomly. they dont know what's causing it but they are trying to fix it. users of Orange broadband beware - its a good job it's free
