Ok so I bought counter strike from best buy the other day and got home and installed. after it installed i went to double click on counter strike and did then it says something about steam not loading properly and then didn't open anything. So i uninstalled and reinstalled 2 more times and the same thing happened. I then download 1.6 and just play it off my flash drive but I want the newer version on my computer because then it would be a waste.

your copy of CSS should have come with a code or key or something yes?

Log into steam with your account, go to my games and at the bottom you will see "activate a product on steam..." . Click that and put your key in and you should have the copy of CSS on your steam account and you should be able to play it from there :)

I had a similar problem with steam being stupid, i had to delete and reinstall steam.

Uninstall Steam....delete its folder/registry entries like mentioned,Then run ccleaner to clean up left behind useless files.

Then re-install steam and try again.

this is a vista-steam conlfict, many people have the problem.. steam has been unable to come up with a fix to help steam work with vista
