Why wont it work?

Hey everybod,
I got Wireless internet recently, and it works on my Dad's computer, the basement computer, but not my computer. It is hardwired to my dad's computer, and it is wireless to the computer in the basement. I had the same wireless antenna that I had in my basement comp. on my comp. upstairs. It works on the basement computer, but not on my comp. TO be more specific, it got a signal and everything on my comp., and I could ping my radio and websites, but when I tried to go to a page, it just said it was unavailable. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I had 2 guys who are wi-fi guru's over, and they couldnt figure it out. One of them had given me a stripped down version of Windows XP...Could that be the problem?

What do you mean by switch computers around? I have tried the antenna on my computer and the basement comp. The basement one worked, but mine doesnt. I ordered a legit copy of Win XP Pro, instead of the copy my friend got me. So I wam starting from scratch, and hopefully that will fix my other problems also. So is that what you meant about switching computers?

Ok sorry forget about switching.Ok what browser are you using? I use firefox and i have had a similar problem with the browser not being able to find a website with a message saying the website was unavalible.Try clearing the cache and cookies,that worked for me.
 
Well first I used Internet Explorer (Not sure which version, it was like the latest one) and that didnt work so I figured I'd try FireFox, and that didn't work either. I will try clearing cache and cookies, although I have never been to any websites with that computer (This would be the first internet on it). Thanks for the suggestions, I appreciate it.
