Why won't my laptop connect to my network/Internet?

My computer won't connect to my network. I goto my list of wireless networks, chose my home network and press connect. Then a prompt comes up and says " Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try yo connect again", I'm in the same room as the router so I know I'm in range. It won't let me connect to any other networks either, other than one named VirusHost. The VirusHost doesn't sound like a network I want to be connected to though! When I start my computer in Safe Mode with Networking I can connect to the Internet, so I don't know what the deal it. Also it seems this happened awhile back and a friend of mine did something in the Internet options, advanced settings to fix the problem. Not sure exactly what he did. Please help!

Delete all your existing wireless connections and reset them back up. It could be that the wireless profile is corrupted and just needs to be resetup.

I would not connect to the virushost as its doesn't sound legit. Also go into internet options in control panel and click on the connections tab, then click on the lan settings button and make sure that the boxes under proxy server settings are unchecked.

You may be infected. If you can get online in safe mode you may want to think about running the following scans and post the logs requested for me to look at.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here or here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If for some reason Malwarebytes will not install or run please download and run Rkill.scr, Rkill.exe, or Rkill.com but DO NOT reboot the system and then try installing or running Malwarebytes. If Rkill (which is a black box) appears and then disappears right away or you get a message saying rkill is infected, keep trying to run rkill until it over powers the infection and temporarily kills it. Once a log appears on the screen, you can try running malwarebytes or downloading other programs.

Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log

It sounds like there is something running in the background that is hindering you from getting online with your network if it is okay in safe mode not good in regular mode. Safe mode boots up with limited applications running which means there is an application running in normal startup that is blocking your internet.

I would definantly look out for malware on your computer. Malware as well as other adware or other issues are usually from free software you downloaded and installed. It seems as if the virus software is redirecting you to get on its' network so it can identifiy your IP address and possibly hack your computer.

If worse comes to worse, you can always re-format your harddrive which wipes everything out which can take 1/3 a day. If that fixes the problem, I would advised to be careful what you download and install online. :)
