Whenever I put my computer to sleep, It just "wakes back up" within a few minutes (usually within 10 seconds).

What's going on here? Is something running in the background that's doing this, and if there is...what is it/is there anything I can do?

Any help would be great, thanks.

it might be because..
something (like a program or ur mouse) is constantly refreshing thus your computer awakening

unfortunately, we don't have the neccessary details to explain what the exact program or whatever is..

Something about how it's constantly sending a signal to your computer causes wireless mice to screw up things like sleep mode. The only you could do would be get a new mouse or unplug the receiver when you're not using it.

actually i have windows vista and when i put mine to sleep it keeps waking up like 10 sec later just like whats happening with vonfeldt7. I however don't have a wireless mouse or keyboard so i dont think the wireless is exactly the problem. Im thinking an application is keeping our computers up but i myself exactly dont know what is.

Well I had a similar problem to this last night. It was about 1 am and I was going to sleep and put my new pc (vista) in sleep mode.
About 20 minutes later the pc woke up and scared the crap out of me, but my mouse's led light was on, and it only goes on when it has been active. So I believe the wireless mouse would cause problems quite possibly.

well its quite possible for the wireless laser mouse to wake your computer up, but how come mine is waking? Mine is hard-wire and its a ball mouse.

Well I tried unplugging my mouse's receiver (usb) and my computer still wakes up on its own. Must be software related...

it could be your network adapter that is causing this. go into device manager and get into the network adapter properties, under power management, uncheck allow this device to wake up computer, the verbage is something like that...should fix the problem the rest of you may have been hacked and are zombies now...
