Why would I like Win 7 64 bit better than XP?

I'm building a new computer for business use, and I'm trying to decide on the OS. I have preferred XP ever since I tried it, and I use it with the classic start Menu and other classic settings, which I understand Win 7 doesn't have. this will be used for power surfing and uploading photos, with lots of open internet explorer and firefox windows open at the same time, and I need to be able to switch between windows or load thumbs without a delay. my computer will be an Athlon II Propus 64 quad core with 8GB RAM (4x2GB DDR3 1333mhz) on an ASRock board with 890GX/SB850/ATI Radeon 4290 chipsets, model number 890GM PRO3. I want a computer that can manage my files and surf the web fast, but still be reliable and stable without having to learn a whole new way of using things. Would I really appreciate Windows 7 64 bit, or would I be better off getting the latest XP Pro OEM version I can find? When I look at the one egg ratings for Win 7 those people seem to have the same issues that I would have, like not being able to do things the same way as you can in XP, using IE7, the way it looks, etc. But, if I can gain a LOT of speed with Win 7 over XP, I'm willing to go for it. any thoughts??

win7 is somewhat intuitive. you won't have to learn a whole lot.
also, 8gb is way too much for 'power surfing'.
windows 7 is a very good OS, i wish all my machines had win7 pro

well in order to take advantage of the 8GB of ram you will need to get XPx64 which in my experience is a joke. Windows7 is pretty slick I think you will be happy with it, if you are stuck on the 9x/2k theme then you might be a little upset. I thought there was a way you could change it to that but i haven't tried since i prefer the current theme it gives you.

Things change you just need to have a little patience and get used to the changes they make... you will find out that once you do it is better that way.

Its a good choice. Do it now or do it later. Another adventure. Most programs work. Another learning curve. I have 64 bit Win 7 Pro and now love it. Did not like at first, just another learning curve. Its going to happen.

I just pulled the trigger on a 64 bit Win 7 OEM builder pak at newegg, plus one of the Acer 23 inch monitors they had for $139 with free shipping. those were the last parts I needed. yay!

Windows 7 is a very good operating system i run it on all my machines and as previously mentioned with 8gb of ram u should use a 64 bit operating system.

windows 7 is much faster than xp as it uses your ram more eficently also you can have classic settings in win 7

And Windows xp will be discontinued in 2014. And to "QuiltFace". Have you ever run Windows xp x64. It is a heck of a lot better than that junk Vista. Windows XP Pro x64 was out before it's time. The only reason people says it junk, The software and hardware companies jump over it to that crap called Vista. I run the Windows xp x64. I have been running it now for 2 yrs straight. No problems. And it is the most stable system. Granted, when it first came out it had driver issues, thanks to the companies mentioned above. It runs certain programs that "Vista" will choke on.

Get the Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate x64 bit. It is the OS that Vista should have been. And if you buy the OEM version, which is also called the System builders version. You will not be able to move it another machine. It will be mated to that computer. And no other.

Now why in the hell would i say it was a joke if i have never used it? yes I used it and compared to the 32 bit version of Xp it was a joke.

Nowhere did I even mention Vista so I don't know where you pulled that out of. We aren't even talking about vista it is between XP and 7. That is great that your 1 computer runs XP 64 bit fine, but I have had experience with it on many computers and overall I give it a thumbs down. I'm tired of people getting so defensive about their computers, you make it sound like i said something bad about your mom. I was just answering the persons question as to what OS to go with XP or 7 and since they were going with 8GB of ram I recommended 7 over XP64... But since you have such a hardon for XP64 give us a good reason why they should use XP64 over 7...

I love Win 7. XP has been around a long time and yeah it was good but I think a lot of people stuck with it mainly because Vista was so bad (Vista did teach me how to fix problems on a daily basis though). You can't halt progress and Win 7 really is as slick as they say it is.
