Hello all,

Have you guys noticed (for those with google chrome) that there are many exe files running (chrome.exe).

I'm running just 1 window and it has 4 processes running.... it sometimes bogs down my laptop..... which it shouldn't!

  1. Why is it like this???
  2. Has anyone else noticed???
  3. Anyway of fixing it??

It's meant to be like this. There's no way to fix it, it makes your browser run faster, but sometimes lags your pc. It's explained in the comics they made.

AFAIK It's to do with the multi-core/processor support, and no there's no way to "fix" it, as people have said it was meant to be that way.

IE8 does the same thing, the core IE process is one, each window is one, as is each tab, so a single page can be like 3 processes

memory hog but good as if one crashes, the whole browser doesnt die, which is especially useful as IE 8 beta 2 crashes A LOT.

This is exactly the reason for multiple processes so i hear. Chrome has the function of closing down a tab or window that is not responding, without having to close any others you may have open...restarting the whole browser.

That will rarely happen in Firefox (3). I never had a crash since i installed it. But it did happened in IE7 (didn't tried 8) when i went on gamespot and opened in tabs like 20 games :D

I agree. On my own PC I have always used FF, and can barely remember having any crashes whatsoever, so I've never seen the need for anything else. On this (Roommates) PC IE hardly ever crashes either.

I haven't tried Chrome, and probably won't, but that's the reason for it having multiple processes, as jdbennet said.
