Wich is better ? X850 XT 256mb or X1600 PRO 512MB AGP

Worth it to unlock the pipes? Absolutely, 12-16 is literally adding 33% more pixel rendering power to the core. Increasing the core/mem clocks - that's your choice. It will require more fan to cool (increased noise) and as alluded, will create more heat by upclocking it. the increase in pipes will help tremendously - finding where/if you want to clock - that's all you.

how does a 256mb video card beat a 512mb video card. i know it has to do with the gpu but i thought a 512 always beat a 256 and a 256 beat a 128 and so on??

Nope, it's far from the truth. In fact, a 128MB 6600GT would easily outperform the 7300 512MB.

Memory is only a small portion of what attributes to GPU performance.

A GPU has to be powerful enough to render images that take up that much memory. 512MB of memory is used heavily when rendering high resolution images - such as 1280x1024 and up. When you get up to 1600x1200 - al lof the sudden the graphics memory (frame buffer) is getting worked and utilized based on size and speed. At lower resolutions, its just a matter of how fast it is, and that it is 128-256MB. However, as Omega stated, having a 7100GPU which woudl struggle even with 1280x1024 with 512MB of ram is simply a gimic to sell more parts for more money. Now, an ATI X1900 XTX running with 256MB of memory will be defeated by its 512MB cousin, because that processor is fast and powerful enough to actually USE that ram space.

Get what I'm saying?

agreed. if youve got plenty of system memory then the x850xt is a much better choice.

i think the next card i buy will be an all in wonder :D i wanna record tv shows lol

If you have the extra pci slot, i would just get an ati tv wonder, thats what i have and its great. i think, correct me if im wrong, the current all in wonders have ati t200 chipset, which isnt all that bad i had one too, but now i have a t550 and the quality is so much better. now that have t650 which is obviouse supposed to be better, and if you get 2 cards you can record two shows at once or watch one and record another at the same time.

Anyone familiar with the power requirements for an X850XT PCIe?

I ran x850pro with a 300w for a few months, then i guess my supply couldnt take it cause when i played games it froze or restarted, so i unplugged my second optical then it worked for a while and then it started to do that when on just the desktop. computer works fine now with a different psu and gpu and and x850pro works fine in a 350w system, 350w is the box requirement.
