widescreen laptop to tv

Hi,

I have a laptop with a widescreen (1280x800) display. Recently I got a s-video + audio to rca cable, to be able to use my laptop to watch DVD's on my TV. When I connect the two, I am indeed able to view my desktop on my TV, but when I start a DVD, I just get a black screen. Any suggestions?

FYI: When I connect someone else's laptop with a normal display, there is no problem at all, so it is not the cable or the TV.
 
If you have an ATI video card, then you must enable "Theater mode" in the display settings (something similar setting is aplicable for NVidia cards too).
