Hi there, i planned to buy a lcd monitor in a few month.
Its only 17" or 19" depend on my budget later on beside both have the same resolution right?
My target are samsung, asus or philips with 5ms response time.
So which better, a widescreen or normal lcd? whats the advantages?
Mainly i use it for gaming and watching movie.
Any suggestion will be appriciated.

Widescreen monitors are much more standard now, and is also better since the human vision is more horizontal then vertical. Movies are also all in widescreen.

widescreen-ive had both and i much prefer widscreen as most films are wide screen

i got a acer x193w from argos for £120 and its excellent, really impressed its got-----\/

Definitely widescreen, once you go widescreen, you just simply can never go back. (and then, if you are like me, and get Dual-Widescreens, you would wonder how you ever lived with such a narrow screen)

I have a Samsung 19" Regular... I prefer it to Widescreen... I feel that widescreen cuts too much off and doesn't leave me with enough space.

Hmm looks like widescreen are favourite here.
I may look that acer lcd that you show me is it 17" or 19".
Some suggest a viewsonic lcd but i dont think the brand is good enough.

I'll be upgrading my 22" widescreen to a 24" widescreen in the next few weeks. The extra horizontal space is very useful.

Na, the Mrs is having it. That's the only reason she's fine with me getting a new one lol My 22" will replace her normal 19" which incidentally is my old one.

It's worth remembering that most older games (over 2 years or so) don't support widescreen resolutions, so everything is stretched across the screen and is fuzzy due to the lcd not running at its native res. A 19¨ lcd is still surprisingly big when I use it, good for general use, but if you're watching movies you're probably better with a widescreen. Despite ¨widescreen¨ films not actually having anything to do with ratio of a ¨widescreen¨ lcd. Which is a shame. On my 24¨ the viewing size for a film is about 22¨ if that's of any use.

Ultimately get the cheapest one you can, you'll never know the difference once you own it, and you certainly won't care

I'm not much of a fan of 19" widescreens. It seems so much smaller than a 22" widescreen when viewing them side by side.

well try going from a 37" to a 19" now thats a size difference!!

it was a toss up between a 22" or a 19" and i chose 19" and used the money to go towards other parts, for me i didnt realy need a big monitor!

i send stuff wireless from my computer to downstairs onto my 37" tv
