Wifi Adapter for tower

Hi there!

I have a question regarding a Wifi adapter I plan on buying with my new build.

The adapter is the IOGEAR GWU627 Universal Wifi Adapter for Internet Ready TV, Game Consoles & Ethernet-Enabled Devices

I live upstairs and the main router is down stairs. Would this adapter need to be plugged into that main router? Or can I just plug my PC into it and get wireless access? Seems like a stupid question, but I just want to be sure before buying it.

*edit: If you require the build specs let me know

Yeah it may work as far as signal strength but all depends on what model your router is? Is the router directly below you or where is it in relation to your computer?

The router is on the other end of the house down stairs. My laptop gets pretty bad connection (1-3 bars, on a good day perhaps 4).

*edit: I cannot get the router specs at this moment.

Does the router have any external antenna's? If not, you may want to get a standard usb adapter that has an antenna so you can get better signal. Only other option would be to get a better router or somehow run a cable from router to your room and hook up a second router.

Thanks for the help :). I don't believe the router has external antenna's. Putting a cable down is out of the question unfortunately. I'll look into the usb adapter.
