Hello guys,

I have had my sony vaio laptop for just about a year now and ive had a persistant problem with it. I cannot connect to a wifi network, Only rarely does it connect. a

Now it finds all networks fine on the network panel. my router has a full strength signal however it is always 95% of the time unable to connect.

maybe it could be firewall or something but i have no idea what i am doing if it was to be a firewall causing the issue.

Has anybody encountered this issue and does anyone have any assistance?

I will be VERY greatful for help,

Kind Regards,

Louis.

P.S any additional info i can give do not hesitate to ask.

Have you tried connecting to unsecured wireless networks? However, if its been bad since you got it then I would assume you have a bad wireless card.

Ok Thank you,

I do have an old router, well it is about 5 years old. It has only been an issue since i have got a new windows 7 laptop. Maybe i should just use a dongle or get a replacement card inside?

Regards,

Louis

If the usb dongle connects good then you know its a problem with the wireless card.

Also, you may want to see if there is a driver update for the wireless card.

Go into device manager and tell me if you have the intel wireless or atheros wireless device.

im afraid it hasnt worked. i installed and restarted laptop. has made no difference. any other suggestions. Thankyou.

Can any other wireless laptop connect your home wireless? Is the wireless switch turned on?

My pc which i am using now is wireless using a belkin dongle. also my mother uses her laptop on the network. And yes, it is switched on ;-)

Then I'm assuming you have a bad wireless card inside. Is it still under warranty? You should have had this fixed when you first came acrossed it.
