wifi extender/repeater HELP

Hi,
So the wifi in my house is not reaching in my room and I cant connect my laptop and ps3.
I was wondering about buying a wifi extender (the plug)
like this :

Will it work if I placed it between the router and my room ?
Will I be able to connect ?

And please. How do you set it up ? do you need to connect it to the modem with cat5 cable or just wireless ?

If not any alternatives...
 
What wireless router do you have now? Is it located in the center of your house? The best thing to do if it's located in either a corner or upper/lower floor, is to move it more centrally and make sure it's not being blocked by file cabinets and furniture. The second best option would be to add an additional access point, wired to your router. If that isn't possible, a repeater would work for your needs, but it reduces performance. That wireless extender is a low end 2.4GHz only extender, so we need to make sure it's adequate for your current wireless router.
 
My router is a cisco router. dpc3010.
Moving it is out of the question. I can't.
It is at the other end of the house that's why the range doesn't reach my room.
And my house is only one floor so it's the same floor.
Any ideas about the extender ? should I proceed and how ?
