WiFi Hotspot Question

 I have a Dell Axim handheld that is ready to log on to the internet right out of the box. If a hot spot is within range you should have internet access the manufacturer said. I managed to get on the internet with this handheld but when I check the settings for the connection its shows that the hotspot I am connecting to is called "tiffany". There was a list of other hotspots that were "linksys" but they were unavailable. Is there a possibility that I am connecting to the internet through a next door neighbor's computer? I live in an apartment. The handheld automatically hooked up to this hotspot when I turned on the WLAN. I had no choice. If this "tiffany" is a neighbor, is there a possibility that "she" can see this sites that I surf? Can I be charged for hacking?

she probably can't see the sites you are visiting since it is WEP encrypted. and you are not allowed to use a wireless connection that isn't yours whether or not its protected.

The Dell tech representative said that I didn't need my own hotspot. He said the device was already "configured" to get online.

Sure, it's configured, but you need to find a public hotspot, not someone else's wireless connection. (Public spots are usually in McDonalds, Starbucks, and the like).

well i doubt im correct but i dont think its fully illegal to use someone elses interent yet, i beleive there is a law pending right now. it could be that its already ilegal in certain states

certain hot spots are legal for everybody such as hot spots at fast food places, coffee shops, hotel/motel, etc. you shouldnt go on your neighbors internet unless you have consent from them.

1. U should get a Wi-Fi router soon to avoid any trouble.

2. Ur neighbor can see ur device connected to his network thorugh router or in router log.
