WiFi issues

Hi All,

I am troubleshooting a WIFI issue at a company and cant seem to find the solution.

They use Ubiquiti Access Points throughout the building. It has an internal and Guest network. The guest networks great and very consistent. Whenever connected to the WiFi internal network the connection is very inconsistent. Pings lose about 50 percent and the ones that do get through they take up 2500ms. Wired connections work fine.

I bought an Airport Extreme and it also has the exact same symptoms as the Ubiquiti.

To me it sounds like the internal network has a traffic or collision issue.

There is a 24 port and a 48 port switch in the server room and a couple of 8 port switches. within the building. I tried swapping out the small switches and it did not resolve.

The computers connected to via wire on the back of the Airport extreme works fine.

How do I troubleshoot this? Are there any tools for sniffing out network collisions?

Please help,

Thank you in advance.

Do you have your networks segregated onto different VLANs that trunk back into the controller instance?

You should be able to do a packet capture from the switch if you believe it's more traffic related, of which you could do something like a SPAN port and then make a pcap of whatever comes out of that interface.
