Will a graphics card update really help?

I just purchased a new computer with Windows Vista Premium. The graphics card that came with it is an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 Video. I am having problems with buffering and communication issues when trying to use RealPlayer for streaming videos. Is this something that can be fixed by upgrading to a better graphics card? I purchased a NVIDIA GEFORCE 8500 GT but have not installed yet. I don't do any gaming, so don't want to waste the money if an updated card won't solve my problem. However, the card does say it will "enhance" the Vista experience. There was also an NVIDIA 256MB card for $30 less (the one I purchased is a 512MB). If I were to install a new card, is there a true difference between 256 and 512 when it comes to performance? I am very weak when it comes to the inner workings of computers, so any advice would be most appreciated. Thanks!!

I would say the 8500 would be fine for vista and media player maybe some old games on low or medium my 8400gs 512mb I impulse bought at Best Buy wasn't to bad with Enemy territory B2142 I over clocked it some but didn't really see much difference either way.
