Will anyone know if I change data on excel?

When I try to access my excel through the password at work I get this message-

This work contains links to other data sources. If you update the links, Excel will attempt to retrieve the latest data.

If you dont update the links, Excel will use the previous information.

Note that data links can be used to access and share confidential information without your permission and possibly perform other harmful actions. Do not update the links if you do not trust the source of this workbook.

Does this mean that any changes I make to the excel database will result in these changes being known by other computers in the company for example? What does this message mean exactly? Or will the database just be changed and so if someone doesnt remember what was there originally then they won't be aware of the changes?

basically i just want to know if anyone will know if i change any data on excel?

If the data in the workbook is from a database, and you only change the data in the book.. it could be re-run, and the old data repopulated. Or it could be from a file that was imported which no longer exists.. It could be either way. You need to find what the source of the table is.
