Will anything happen??

Will anything happen if my power supply is not big enough to support all my hardware. Will it damage anything in my computer or will it just not turn on?????

hmmmmmm

From what i understand of this......if it is inadequate then parts of the computer will not turn on...I don't think the whole system will shut down

I would like to add a few comments of my own.

Generally the first answer is true, however if you try to drain that much more that a PSU can deliver it is possible to damage the PSU. This wouldn't normally affect the computer or components but it has been known to happen.

My word or advise is that rather than use a cheap PSU with high power, you are always better to use a lower power PSU from a good manufacurer such as Tagan.

Definitely true...

I am not sure, but often when people get random restarts for no given reason, i is due to the lack f power supply to the components in general. As a result failure occurs. However with modern power hungry GFX, the likelihood of running out is high. So I reiterate what has been said in the post above. My suggestion..spill out more for a 450 + watt PSU :) from a well known brand to have plenty of room and a high quality product.

JAN :D

yeah your cd rom will like sparatically power on and off, random restarting, fans may run like thier running on really low power batteries, like alot of fishy stuff...i dont think you can actually hurt anything, whats in the system and how much wattage is pumping through it?, if this is specific to a certain computer your thinking of

If it's stupidly not-powerful-enough then your computer wont turn on. A more likely case is that it will boot, youll be running fine and then your voltages wont be stable and you may encounter lockups and/or restarts

Also, if fans start running slowly, especially the CPU fan, who knows what might happen...The CPU could fry! So, consequently it could damage some components....

Is that not right?

Well in most cases, the mobo will cut in and kill power to the system before stuff like that happens

Ahhh, but, because it isn't getting enough power, the motherboard wouldn't function properly...lol, i probably sound like an idiot don't I? :P

Again, Praetor, you've proven me wrong...:D

whats the power of your psu?

And if the mobo wont function properly than it wont pass the POST and you'll realize the problem much sooner
