Will I be able to OC?

Hello all. I'm STILL in the process of building my new computer. Almost done rounding up all the parts.

My question is how much (if any) will I be able to OC my Phenom II X4 955 BE CPU?

I'll only be using the stock cooler with it so I know I shouldn't expect much.

This will be in a Rosewill Challenger case with a 120mm front intake fan, a side 120mm intake fan, a 140mm exhaust fan on the top, and a 120mm exhaust fan out the back.

I'm also going to be using one of two motherboards.
Asus M5A97 or the MSI 970A-G45.

How much should I expect to be able to OC? I don't really want to buy an aftermarket CPU cooler but I would like to squeeze a few hundred more MHZ out of this CPU.

Thanks!

i'd say around .5ghz with the stock cooler, and in a month or 2 i'd go ahead and either get the coolermaster 212 for 28 or if you want super-clocking then a antec h60 for ~67/8 with a 10 buck mir

I'm not really interested in overclocking it any more than that. At least not until it becomes necessary to do that. Thanks!

With the stock cooler, you should not go over 1.4V CPU voltage. Just bump up the voltage to 1.4, then start bumping up the X by .5 at a time till it gets unstabe then back it off by .5. Make sure you keep a eye on your CPU temps because the temp will have some to do with how well your case cooling is.

Might want to consider the 965, since it overclocks a little better than the 955.

Not really, I've had a few of both and they all clocked about the same. If you want a few more 100mhz. you should get the 970. Its from alittle better yield core.
