Will I be shown as online if my PC goes to sleep?

Say you're logged in to a forum such as this one. Different forums have different ways of indicating to others that you are online. A light by the avatar, a list of users at the bottom, etc. My question is this - if my computer goes to sleep, will the site continue to show me as being online? Does it depend on the site?

If it's sleeping, there won't be any activity going on, it stays in a suspended state. So your browser won't be reporting back to CF that you are still on the site. I believe this forum only marks you as online if it sees you going to different pages in a certain time frame.

Also I'm pretty sure your computer severs its internet connection when it goes to sleep.

Some NIC will stay in a standby state such as for WoL. Other than that there are really no application layer services that can access the NIC while in sleep mode.

Therefore, your online status would depend on the server-side timeout value for when it considers you no longer active.

Depends on cookie timeout settings. As far as this forum goes, you will show as online for up to an hour after your last activity unless you physically sign out of the forum.

Are you talking about this website showing you are online?

Everything your doing when your computer goes to sleep is gonna be different depending on the program or website....

right guys.....?

Not really, because when the computer it asleep it's in a suspended state.
