hey guys

My bro is having a problem with his motherboard.

if he gets it replaced with the exact same motherboard model, can he just plug and play, or will we have to reformat and re-install windows?

its a MSi P55M-GD45 with Core i5 750.

basically, ill return his current one, get the same model, and just plug that in...

you will be fine no matter what, i have swapped hardrives on different laptops...it works the same

Yep, if the board is that same no worries. If it's different, uninstall everything in device manager, then shut down, replace the board, boot up and hope for the best.

Windows 7 is pretty good with drivers.

k sweet thanks guys

the motherboard will be the EXACT same. its just that we getting it replaced cause i think the SATA ports dont work properly.

so thats pretty cool. i dont have to worry about anything.. sweet, thanks guys

i recently RMA'd a dead asus board (died in week 2) on an OEM 7 install. they sent me the same board with a different REV number and it wouldn't boot up. it gave a blue screen that addressed the error was in the memory controller function. I then proceeded to boot up a live cd, uninstalled the drivers for the primary mem controller and then she booted and 7 installed the correct drivers without hesitation. not trying to be scary, just a small heads up. cheers.
