Will it help?

I have the system in my sig and I was wondering if it would make a noticeable difference if I uped the memory. I don't see why I wouldn't get another 2x1GB type thing so basically is going from 2gigs to 4gigs noticeable and worth it? Also should I get the same sticks or something different (2 reasons... does it matter and what would you pick)?

Thanks

EDIT: Or maybe get 2x2GB? what do you guys think? Do you find throwing in the extra RAM really increases the performance of your system?

The largest boost seen when increasing memory for both XP and certainly now with Vista is going from 1gb to 2gb total. For XP that seems to smooth things out with the boost there. For Vista the need for having more ram is apparent while 4gb is still a high priced option to consider. For large apps on a work horse type build as well as programs like CAD or graphics design/animation/video editing where memory is taxed the increase would help. For the average gaming build having a good 2gb and more importantly a good performing video card would be key items over simply rushing to increase ram. For the newer versions of Windows with more auto loading features taking up availble memory the increase might see a gain there.

The only way you will notice a difference is if your running out of memory and start using your virtual memory, plus if your running XP it will only see about 3.25 gbs of ram. Vista 64 bit can see 4gbs
