Will Leaving My Wireless Function on Laptop While it is Hardwired to Modem Have any N

Will Leaving My Wireless Function on Laptop While it is Hardwired to Modem Have any Negative Effect? I just had the Cable Company move the modem/router connection from my to my Den to my living room. Before I was receiving my Laptop's internet signal wireless from the bedroom. I have a small stand next to my bed which is where I use the laptop 90% of the time (the other 10% on my bed). Obviously I'll get faster internet speed hardwiring the laptop to the modem then using wireless. My question is, if I leave the wireless function on when I have the laptop hardwired, will it have any negative effect? Thank you for your input.

Disconnect the wireless or shut it off while connected to an ethernet cable so you know for sure you are using the cable instead of wireless.

Technically you should have the same speed internet on either wired or wireless. Of course you must worry about signal degrades and such, but typically there shouldn't be any real difference. Now network file transfers will probably make a noticeable difference.

As for leaving the wireless radio on, I'd say you'd probably be fine either way. Aside from the computer possibly becoming confused about the connection as John said, it really shouldn't make a difference. I suppose over time the radio could wear out, but I doubt disabling wireless would extend the lifetime of it any noticeable amount.

Thanks johnb35 Good Point I HAdn't Thought About It

Thanks alot johnb35 That's a good point that I didn't think of and probably never would have. I've taken your advice and I think you're right that it still was running in the wireless mode. You rock!

If you are in the same room as the wireless than hooking up wired won't make any difference (unless you have an old crappy wireless card).
