will most p35 boards shut down if fsb overheats? see, im overclocking, and i am gonna push that fsb as high as it can go with my ddr2 1066. very worried about the dangers. im gonna slap a fan on the fsb, but what if it fails? baaaad. but how bad?

If the fan fails the temperature of the motherboard (both bridges and most likely the CPU a bit as well) up. The Bridges will go up the most and the CPU perhaps a few degrees.

I'd suggest two fans to be sure though I am quite sure that if the fan has worked some time it won't stop now (except if it's like ancient or something :p )

ok first of all, that does not make sense. FSB is short for front side bus, and it's not a physical object. however, when you increase the fsb, your north bridge will heat up and i think this is what you meant? as for heat, if you NB gets very hot, it can limit how high you can OC

yes yes but are there any p35s, or amds, or nvidias out there that will throttle the fsb or shut the mobo down if it gets to hot?

If your Northbridge gets too hot, it's likely the system will hang and then crash, or even just bluescreen and restart. If you are going to push the overclock to the max then I'd recommend a full system water-cooling setup (IE; CPU, NB SB and graphics) Also what are your ram modules?

the odds say that if you do not increase your northbridge's vcore, then the heat cant go up more then a few degrees. northbridges overheating is not common.

if your trying for benchmarks, look for something like a ln2 or dice pot for northbridge, but be careful if you go that way, be sure to insulate it correctly
