Will new harddrive get rid of virus?

I want to know that if I were to just replace the hd and reload the OS and other programs on a brand new hd, will that remove the virus I have (Trojan SPM/LX)? Is that where the trojan would be? Hiding somewhere on the hd? I have read that just because Malwarebytes may have removed the initial threat, there could be "backdoors" left open for hackers to get into my computer and use it without me even knowing it. I haven't tried getting rid of the TrojanSPM/LX yet because I am trying to see if it is worth my time to try, and then someone can still have access to my pc. What is my best course of action in getting rid of this virus, and then keep it from returning?? Any help or info is greatly appreciated!

No need to physically change the drive. If you format the drive you have, the virus will be gone, along with all the other data on the drive.

So what about all the pictures and home videos? If I am able to write them to disc, will the virus transfer to the disc? This is my only concern with reformatting the original hd, that I won't be able to retrieve the pics and vids. There's nothing else on the pc of any real value to me.

you should be able to copy you videos and pictures to another HDD or CD, as the trojan will most likly be its own file hidden somewhere deep in your system files, once you have done this then format your original HDD and reinstall your OS.

Thanks

I have a 500gb external hd, so do I need to be worried about if it is infected? Can I move the pics and vids to the external drive, dis-connect it, and then re-format? This will kill the virus and then I can re-load OS and go about normally and things are ok? What is the proper order of doing things? I have never done a re-format. First the OS and then the other programs?

yes move the pictures to external hard drive and then remove it, format and reinstall your OS and virus protection, then connect the external HDD and scan it just to be sure.

Thanks

Download and run malwarebytes and hijackthis and post both logs back here. Run malwarebytes first and then hijackthis.

I was able to run in it safe mode, but when I went to update, there was error 732 (0, 0). What does that mean, that there is no internet access? I cannot get on the internet from the infected machine, but I can on this one. I thought if I ran the quick scan that it would fix it a little and then I could get the internet going (in safe mode- Can I get internet connection in safe mode?) and then update the malwarebytes and then go back and do a full scan, but no such luck. At any rate, I am in the process of running those two scans and will report back soon.
