Will PCI card work for this game?

Hi, I have a Compaq Deskpro EN - one of the really small ones. I had wanted to upgrade my graphics so my kids could play some of the games that don't work...I have, for example, the Lord of the Rings game that calls for 32 MB 8X graphics card with "T & L". Well, I don't have an AGP slot. If I get a PCI card with 64 MB, will this game run? The rest of the stuff on my computer seems to be OK, memory and processor etc.

Right now I just have the Intel graphics in the motherboard.
Thanks.

Yeah, why stop at 64 mb? If you aren't on a budget, get a better card. Although if you have PCI, they will all be cheap and crappy.

If I go with 128 MB might I have to add more memory? (I currently have only 128 RAM and 10G. And will my power supply be enough? (don't know what I have, but someone mentioned this at a computer store I was at.)

Compaq Deskpro EN Slim Form Factor - I don't know where to find a model number that makes sense...I've checked all over. It's a 733 processor, 10 gig, 128 ram. Windows 2000.

Every addin card since the GeForce256 has had hardware T&L. With any PCI video card out there you will be good. Which Lord of the Rings game is it? Battle for Middle Earth 'requires' a 1.3GHz CPU, or a P4/AthlonXP to have a little extra power. If you even want to try running it on your system you'll at least need more RAM in addition to any PCI video card.

My budget is the bare minimum, frankly. I'm looking at the items on these sites that go for $40 or so.
Thanks for all you advice.

It's the Fellowship of the Ring game..it says 128 RAM is ok...

I'm not sure my system can handle the 128MB..can you recommend a 64 MB card in that range? I know they are few and far between at this point. Thanks.

Your system will be able to handle any amount of memory on the graphics card, if you had the slot, you can run a 1GB memory card, though you'll run into extreme bottlenecking.

Yes it should run fine. As suggested already by many if the budget allows it is always nicer to go higher. No point in getting a card that "just" does it when you can get a card that does it well :).

update.....

Well, I got the card recommended above (FX 5200). Newegg got it here over night, wow. It installed like a breeze, and I am able to play a couple of games I couldn't play before....both horseback riding games. But LOTR Fellowship of the Ring still doesn't play! It installs, and gets to the point when I click on play...it asks for settings. I put it on the lowest setting (what they say is the fastest......no shadowing, etc.) When I hit play, the screen goes black and stays that way. When I check task manager, it appears to be running, but nothing is happening. I am downloading a what I guess is the latest driver for this card...it appears to be taking a couple of hours to download...is it worth it? Might that help? Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the help, by the way..even if I can't get LOTR to run, I'm happy (or more so, my daughter) is happy that the horse games work.

I would definitly download the new drivers. I would just have it download over night if it takes a long time.
However, that card should work with LOTR, but I am not sure exactly why it is not working. Just try the latest drivers, and then if that doesn't work, we can help you further.
