Will the Belkin Pre N Wireless Router Make My WiFi Internet Speed Faster?

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, my knowledge on WiFi is very lttle though my knowledge on hardwire connections is much better. Anyway, to begin with, the WiFI connection in my apartment is 54mbps from a cable modem router from my desktop which is pretty fast on Roadrunner Broadband. The internet speed on my Thinkpad T23 Notebook which I use in my bedroom just for the internet, is OK but obviously not close to as fast as my desktop. Anyway, if I swtich to a router that does 108mbps, does this mean my wifi speed will double or at least be noticeably faster then my current 54mbps connection? Is 108 the current fastest mbps? Is the Belkin Pre N Wireless Router recommended or are there better & faster ones? Thanks for any input.

well, it wouldnt increase your internet speed as your internet speed is around 1-15Mb/s and networks are generally around 100Mb/s wired or 54Mb/s wireless. the only thing that will really benefit you by getting a Pre-N router is your Home Network, not the internet.

and wireless systems usually run on about half (or so) of what is advertised (i.e. a 54mb/s would run about 26mb/s most the time... unless you are right next to the router ofc), so the 108mb/s would benefit you if youre using your network to connect to the other pc a lot...

As he said, the internet speed is well below 802.11g's max speed anyways, so it wouldnt make much of a difference.

But in order to obtain the speed and range of 802.11n, the router also has to be 802.11n.

I have the router and mt network's grown recently and It's a great router. The speeds are great, but my internet is too.

With my linksys it didn't do a very good job of routing and prioritizing packets (even with QoS). With this I can be using BT and my wife, mother in law, Wii, and PS3 experience no problems. It's widely available for around $100 and I think it's worth the money.
