That would bring the build to this. Would it not be functional without this new motherboard or is it simply more powerful?

I will work with the 87TD w/ 870 chipset but the ones he listed have the newest 970 and 990 chipsets and AM3+ socket.

Where are you buying from?

The motherboards I listed are the new AM3+ socket, so you could upgrade to zambezi later.

Might as well get new technology board so you don't have to upgrade later.

Is it will all work. You need DDR3. For the price DDR3 1600. Myself I would get this 990X Gigabyte over the Asus.

Why may I ask do you prefer the Gigabyte over the Asus?

The Asus is a 6+2 power phase. The Gigabyte is a 8+2.

For the price of the Asus you can get a full 990FX board.
