Will this build work?

I am totally new to building computers but I want to give it a try. I want to play new games at fairly high settings. Will the operating system come with microsoft office? I need to know if all of these parts will fit together and run well for my needs. Any recomendations are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance:)
*also any budget recomendations are nice. I was hoping it would be much cheaper.

1) optical drive is your DVD/CD reader/writer

2) many power supplies that come with cases are fairly poor and its usually advisable to get a known brand, can come to that later :)

3) sound card is worth getting, just for that extra experience :)


I know you mention help on your budget but its worth givng us an idea of what your upper limit is, we can try and get it as far under that as possible.

I would say that the build is fairly average to be fair, the graphics card is a bit lacking and whilst the CPU is pretty powerful there are some great blistering ones out at the moment for not too much more. An Intel Core 2 duo would be the best thing to go for.

So if you can give us an idea of how much you want to spend we can look at whats the best option :)
 
I was hoping for the $600 ballpark but I don't know if thats possible. Would it be cheaper just to buy a preassembled mass produced comp? Is there a cheaper way to get windows? What graphics card would you recomend? Will an old monitor work? thanks for your time:)
*edit*my goal was to get a cheap yet good comp and if building it was the way to go then so be it.I also wanted the challenge of building one.
also, are there entire computer sets that i can assemble?
are they cheaper than assembled computers?

I threw this together...see what you guys think... It's much more upgradable than your previous build.

And to answer your questions, a sound card is not needed. And yes, you can use old monitors with new computers. I also downgraded you to XP Home. There's no real need for Pro...

First off, I would disagree that you need a sound card. On the contrary, if you're trying to save money, I'd dump it- integrated sound will do just fine. I doubt you have an expensive 5.1 surround sound system for your computer, anyway. :P

You can use an old monitor...you won't have any problems except that the picture quality on it won't be great, because of course it's old.

There are barebones kits you can buy, but that will generally be more expensive than just buying the parts and assembling it.

I would also strongly recommend that you get an Intel Core 2 Duo, if you can fit it into your budget. If not, I'd suggest you wait a few more weeks until Core 2 Duo price drops, and buy it.

There are cheaper ways to get windows, but none of which are legal and we can't talk about them here, or anywhere for that matter (well, you can talk about them, I won't respond. and any post on this forum about it will be deleted).

As for a gfx card, I'd recommend a 7600GS...you won't really be able to afford anything better on your budget. You will be able to play most games on pretty high settings, while some really resource intensive games will require that you run it on medium settings.


Lastly- you bumped your thread after only 14 minutes. That is generally considered to be bad forum etiquette, and is frowned upon here. Wait at least a few hours before bumping a thread...just be patient and people will respond in due time.

two motherboards is a new one on me :D

if thats in the total price then i would suggest taking one of the mobo's out and adding another 512mb ram :P

i would say definately 1gb, its will be well worth it

the extra motherboard is just a typo i'm sure

and dual core processors do offer some good benefits for multitasking but its more about the fact that the core 2 duo line of processors are the best about and will blitz the others for pure speed and power, you won't be dissapointed :)

The two mobo's I'm pretty sure was a typo...you only need one- in fact, I'm not sure if you can even use two mobo's in one computer...

You want 1gb of RAM MINIMUM- preferably 2gb...
