CPU = 4.2GHz AMD FX 4170 Quad Core

MOBO = M4A78LT-M

Need more experianced advice.... i believe it can but....

No, it cannot.

Only some AM3 Mobos can use the FX series. Gonna have to upgrade to an AM3+ mobo.
