Will this processor work with my motherboard?

I currently have a gateway lx 6810 I've slowly been upgrading. I've put in a GeForce Gtx 460, 650 watt power supply, I got both for less then 50 dollars. Next I'd like to upgrade the processor. This one is an awesome deal and from what I understand it will fit. I'd just like to be sure before I order it.

Any help is appreciated! Thank you.

I'm not sure, I know the basics like how to put a rig together physically. but I'm still learning compatibility, specs etc.

I couldn't find an exact name for my processor. Kept finding gateway lx something of another. I just looked it up again and it is indeed a quad core, I must have read wrong. Good thing I asked before buying. Can you recommend a processor that will be directly plug and play with my pc?

Download pc wizard from my sig, install it and run it. Go to FILE, SAVE AS and click OK. Copy the text out of that file into this thread.

You have a dead socket motherboard, meaning they don't make processors for it anymore. It's not really worth doing anything with it. You already have a quad core 203 ghz processor. What issues are you having? My advice would be to install windows 7(assuming you have Vista), get a SSD drive. And thats if you really want to put money into it. Or just save up and get an updated system.

I knew id get this response and i do understand where your coming from. You can build a pc for even 500 or 600 that would make mine look like a joke, and i fully intend to. But in the meantime, if i can get a processor cheap that someone has laying around, and i'm hoping i can seeing as they're obsolete like you said then id like to do that in the mean time.

The Intel Pentium D 945 is a dual core and is 2 years older. The Q8200 is a quad core.

yep i realized this :) was hoping someone could recommend something that will give me a performance increase at a good price.

What kind of performance increase are you after? I.e. is it gaming performance?

A new SSD or graphics card will be the best options moving forward. Also learn how to overclock that CPU.

In terms of any of the above, what SPECIFC model PSU is that?

I would save my money, if I were you s0rry.
You could buy an SSD, and re-use for when you got the cash to buy a complete system. But for now, it's a dead socket and it's pretty much maxed out already.
A reinstall often helps wonders on an old PC - especially if you add an SSD to the mix.
