Will this GPU upgrade increase performance

Well, i have a workhorse of a computer, Dell Dimension 4550, Great PC, no complaints. Its a bit outdated but i dont do anything that demanding on it. 2.6ghz P4 processor, 1gb of ram, can be 2gb, i didnt realize when i ordered two 512 sticks. Because Dell claims only 1gb will work, however 2gbs work and has been tested.

Anyway, now that i traded for a second 250gb hard drive, since the stock 80gb filled up quick, i want to upgrade my GPU, currently, i have a nVidia GeForce MX 420, http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce4mx.html, I have noticed hiccups when watching 720p movies, through VLC, however i added a TV Tuner and can watch my HD programs without hiccups. Will an upgraded GPU, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102073, solve my problems? The added memory means that it has access to 512mbs of onboard GPU ram, as opposed 64mbs? So it draws less from the actual sticks of ram. As you can see im limited to GPUs because its an AGP 4x slot.

Here are the specs:

I also just got a new hard drive, so will i need a PSU since the stock PSU is only 250w.

Can anyone recommend compatible me parts.

You better contact Dell and find out what video card can be put in there. I had the 4500 and you could only put up to a 128mb video card in it, due to motherboard limitations not power supply limitations. I had gotten a 256mb card and the computer wouldn't bootup, even got a better PSU and still wouldn't boot up. I called Dell and they said only up to 128 mb due to motherboard limitations.

you may want to try the Geforce 5/6 series cards on ebay. Look of for ones with 64-bit memory, they are horrible performers. there may even be some 7 series cards on ebay or newegg, or wherever you shop.

Try getting a new video card maybe that will help you out.
