will this out perform my quad core

FM1 CPU's are basically equal to the Athlon II's with a GPU on them.

I upgraded from a 635 to this 955, I say it's worth it, the performance is much better with my phenom. If you can unlock the X3 it should perform good as well, but I'd buy a quad and overclock it. Chances are you'll get a C2 chip with the 720, you stand a better chance of a better clocking chip if you buy a quad (most if not all are C3 revisions now)

I would go with a 965 if you can afford it, or the 955 if need be. The 965 will hit higher clocks OCd than most 955.

idk i dont want to spend a whole lot of money, but i want to be able to record in brink again, stupid slash damage messed with the game and now i cant record anymore.

Using fraps? Make sure you set the framerate to 30fps or play the game in 1280x720 for recording. Use a different drive purely for storing videos, not the same drive as the game is on, as that will make things stutter.

Go for the 965, because it seems you know how to overclock pretty well. Don't want to upgrade a little now and regret you didn't go all out.

The A6 and A8 APU's are definitely better than the athlon processors. People are really under estimating their performance. I know benches don't mean everything, but their typically rate higher then a lot of phenoms even.

well i saw a review comparing it to the sandy bridge and it was way better

They dont on the CPU side, but the A8 kicks sandybridge IGP/GPU butt. the A8 is really just a 32nm. Athlon II core with some tweaks. And is slightly faster then a Athlon II at the same mhz. But it has a built in 6550D GPU which stomps Intels 2500/2600 HD2000/3000.
