Hey.

Can you put a 1333FSB Processor into a 1066FSB Motherboard?

I was thinking of doing this temporarily after christmas until i have money for a new motherboard to support everything properly.

Is it possible though?

The motherboard is an ASUS P5S-MX
The processor will be an E8400 or E8500.

No, that board does not support 45nm chips such as the e8400.

I would highly recommend to save your money till your ready to get what you really want.

The mobo is so basic it's not even funny.

Ok. I think i may go for a Q6600 then, I really want a processor first xD Guess it depends how my money is after christmas, may have enough to buy a processor and mobo both at once.

I would recommend to wait, save, and buy mobo and cpu at the same time.

:)

look at combo deals for motherboard and processors...you can save like 30% sometimes. That is the way to shop on a tight budget:)

At NewEgg.com you can get all the following components with faster RAM for $15 less than TigerDirect with their mail-in-rebate:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield Processor - $185
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R motherboard - $120
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 1066 RAM - $50

And if he got the E8400 Dual-Core processor instead of the Q6600 processor he could knock another $25 off his total.

That is Tigerdirect.com, I buy from Tigerdirect.ca (because I live in Canada) and the prices are still cheaper at Tiger Vs. Newegg in Canada.
