BF2 on highest at 10x76 is possible from what I've learned. Depends alot on what other hardware you have in mind though (e.g. amount of RAM).

But it's the slowest card you should consider yes.

i am going to get a amd dual core 4200 or 3800 havent decdied on that yet so i think it should do pretty good

Get the damn 6600gt, the ati card lacks SM 3.0 support and FP32. It'll run just fine as i can run bf2 on a x300se at highest settings at 800x600at 75Hz.

i have a 6800 gt oc. It runs bf2 like a champ on high settings. It has also come down in price.

Still costs $300 though. I'd be happy if i got a 6600gt for $164.

but i have read reviews for the X800 XL and they said it out performed the 6800gt in Half Life 2 and Far Cry. They say its a very good card for the price mirroring the specs of the X850 XT Platinum. Here see for yourself. This one also has 16 pixel pipelines compared to the 6600gt's 8 and the 6800gt 16 as well.

Its a rendering process if i am correct. SM 3.0 includes features like HDR lighting and such. To get back on topic, you asked about the 6600GT and if you would be able to run on high. I'll give you a level of comparison in which you should be able to compare your current system to and make an educated judgement call. I have:

AMD Athalon XP 2600+
1GB PC3200 RAM
eVga geForce 6800 Ultra AGP
SB Audigy 2 ZS
500W PSU
Asus a7n8x Deluxe

As you can see, my computer has some dated hardware as well as some great hardware. I run bf @ 1280x1024 with settings on high, no AA or AF. Make your call from there.
