Honestly, id get an X-Fi Music.
You might not notice THAT much of a difference with that one you chose, but you deffinetly would with the X-Fi line.

Well if you're playing it through some crappy powered computer speakers then, no, it's not worth it. Onboard audio will be more than enough for the average user. If the money is really burning a hole in your pocket, I would avoid creative, or EMU (creative's pro-audio alter ego).

i just have a thing for people having to have a fancy named stamped on everything they buy! Most manufacturer's don't even make the items they sell.

And the real question from the original post before we all get sidetracked is, what sort of amp/speakers are being used to notice a difference?

personally if your looking at gaming, i would definitely get a sound card. i have a creative audigy 2zs and love it. its clear and helps my out computers preformance. you can turn up the sound quality all the way and it sounds fine and runs fine.
