Will this system lag?

Okay, I just ordered parts for this computer. I'm building it for a friend that my dad works with. Anyway, I got Vista Home Premium with it and was wondering if I really should use it. Is Vista stable enough? He wants to do some pretty decent gaming on it (notice the 512MB Card) and I'm not sure if I should put Vista or XP on it just to be sure. Also, is that 2 GB going to be enough?? What about the power supply (550 Watts)? Thanks! Here's a screenshot of the order form.

It will be a great build for Vista and shouldnt lag at all. But if your into gaming, the x1600PRO will be holding you back.

How would that hold me back? It's a 16x PCI Express with 512 MB of Memory. Plus, it's got DVI and S-Video outputs for Media Center Edition on his HDTV. It sounds pretty capable to me. :D How should that hold me back?

Memory doesn't solely determine how a graphics card will perform, and outputs have nothing to do with it at all. The thing that matters the most is the actual graphics processing unit, and the memory and core clock speeds.

Crap...so how well is this thing 'actually' going to perform? I just wasted $160 on it!
160 was alot for that card. The truth is the $80 7600GS 256MB would perform better.

Just because it has 512MB of VRAM doesnt make it good, since the card itself isnt powerful enough to fully utilize it's 512MB.

If you can, I would sell/trade it for a 7600GT at least.

I'm running the x1600 Pro on AGP now, and it does decent.
So I wouldn't say it's a waste of money.
Granted, it's not the most perfect card in the world.
But there's worse things you can do with your money.
I don't regret buying mine at all.

Well great. I feel like an idiot now. This will be my 6th build. This will be my first NICE build though. Generally, I'm around the $600 price, not the $2,000. I wish I would have known this before. I don't know anything!!

I think the ATI and that system will be capable to run game @ 1024x768 or 1280x1024 easily

Thats a very broad statement, since every game varies. You may be able to play some older games at those resolutions, but not others like GRAW.

Just out of curiosity who did you order from? Places like newegg have a 30 day return policy on non-defective items as long as you don't open the box. You have to eat the cost of shipping but they will take it back or exchange it for something else.

Sorry. I got it from Tiger-Direct. Personally, I've just liked them better.

Okay, but anyway. Besides the Graphics card itself, is there anything else that I probably shouldn't have chosen? It seems like I've got enough RAM to start with, a decent sized hard drive, a very generous power supply, and a nicely vented case. I'm not really sure what I should have done differently.
