Will this video card do any good on my system?

Here are my system specs :

I came into this board a while ago, asking for video card suggestions, and someone told me a Radeon 7500 (pci port) would be a good option.

I had no luck finding one (a few pop-up in eBay every week, but I have no luck winning the auctions, I buy all my stuff with Buy It Now), but I came across this page, which still sells brand new PCI video cards, and I was thinking of buying one of those instead of the Radeon. I was specifically aiming for the eVGA GeForce2 MX 400 / 64MB DDR , what do you guys think?

You'll find the GF4MX/GF4000MX/Radeon9200SE at the bottom of the page much better as far as performance goes.... now if you dont intend to play video games than you should probably go for the cheapest one :)

Hi Praetor :)
Im glad you replied.

I do intend to play games :(
But didn't that other guy (the other one that replied in my past topic, I can't remember his nick) say I probably shouldn't go for a 128mb because I won't notice much changes due to my 500mhz proccesor?

If it's not stretching your budget you might as well get the 128 as it will maximize what performance is available. If you gotta think more than 5 seconds on the budget thing, go for the 64MB version. :)

I just found out the GeForce2 MX requires 200 watts power supply, and my Compaq has a power supply of only 120watts
Crap

Hmm that 200W rating is just a reccomendation really but 120W is REALLY low lol (are you sure its 120W and not 120V? :)) What other devices do you have in the computer?

Didn't know it was low :P it's just what it says on the system specs on the Compaq page :

Power Supply :
-Steady-state 120 watts
-Energy Star Compliant

Devices?
Well...
A TDK CD-RW Burner, a standard CD Drive and a Hauppage PCI TV-In video card.

I also have a motorola surfboard cable modem and Philips Magnavox monitor, but I guess those don't count because they get their power supply out of their own plugs.

One harddrive? If so, you might be able to get away with it as you would only be using the max potential of the video card when gaming (at which point odds are you wont be burning cds, ripping cds or recording video). I'd still pop that up to at least a 250W tho :)

:)

Yeah, I wouldn't take the risk / / hassle
Oh yeah, go for the GF4 mx, not GF2. Or go for GF 2 Ti if it's same price.. GF 2 Ti is about the same as gf4 mx.
