Will this work? Cutting pins off a DVI connector to fit

Hi,

I have a DVI-D (Dual Link) Output on my laptop, but I want VGA (Analog). I already have a DVI-A to VGA connector, but it doesnt fit, and I don't want to pay $30 for a DVI-D to VGA converter. The only way I could make it fit, is I completely remove the all the pins on left side of the converter (the horizontal bar with 2 pins above and below). Would this work? Most likely not, but if someone could help me, that would be great.

Please refer to the different types of DVI (Pictures) below:

Thanks

Rule of thumb for novices and even intermediate users, NEVER MODIFY your hardware. WHATEVER you do, if you physically change the pins or whatever, then be prepared for it not working. You can get ones off ebay or something.

Or more importantly what stores do you go to, I know some places are rip offs, like a DVI-VGA converter is $AU25 while at some other place its just peanuts.

It's really weird, but the $5 converters' (the one I have) DVI-A, have extra pins, that my laptop's DVI-D is not accepting, which are the two pins 'above and below' the horizontal bar.

Yeah they shouldn't be very expensive, just get it off ebay or something if the stores near you are up-market rip-off merchants. :D

DVI-D outputs a digital signal only. You cannot cut the pins off the adapter and expect it to work, nor can you use a regular DVI-I to VGA adapter. Are you certain your laptop doesn't output DVI-I?

You shouldn't modify your hardware full stop unless you know exactly how it works, like voltmodding a graphics card. :P
