Will this work out ok?

I've ordered a new custom built system from the internet. But i didn't include an Operating System with the package because i thought i could just install XP using my disk. But the disk is an upgrade. So instead of forking out more money for an XP Full Installation disk i was wondering if the following would work:

Full Installation of Windows 98 followed by Windows XP Upgrade (checked, it can upgrade from 98)

I was thinking maybe because Windows 98 is so old it wouldn't recognise the components or the computer would reject the disk? Please help :)

If you only have one drive, start the install with the upgrade and during the install it will ask you to verify a prior version, take out the XP cd and put in the 98 after it verifies it put the XP cd back in and finish the install, you can still only have the XP installed on one computer at a time.
