Im getting new motherboard and ill have to reinstall vista again. I never backed up my hard drive as i thought old motherboard was gonna be repaired.

What i want to do is partition the c drive and install vista on the new partition for the new motherboard. Once done and go into windows i would then drag over files from old partition for back up. Once i got all files backed up i would then format the old one and combine the 2 partitions into one hard drive again.

I read Vista can do this but wanted to be sure.

It might let you, it might not.

Best bet is to use GParted Live to resize your current partition and create a new one.

THe new partition will be made when installing vista. Im hoping from upgrading from the p5e3 premium to the p5e3 deluxe i can at least get into windows to back up files so i dont have to partition.

You could uninstall all the drivers (everything in device manager) with the setup it belongs with, shut down, uninstall the drive and hook it up to your new mobo. that is the best chance you will get to avoid a reformat.

Thats way too much work of building then unbuilding for a few drivers. Especially when old motherboard is still at ASUS on its way back. The new one will be here first.
