Will upgrading my memory make much of a difference to my system?

Hello, I know that obviously the more memory you have available the more stable and smooth your system will be.. Depending on the frequencies. At the moment I have 3 x 2GB sticks of Corsair DDR3 @ 1066mhz. Im thinking of upgrading to 3 x 4GB sticks of Corsair DDR3 @ 1800mhz. I know a lot of it depends on things like fsb/cpu frequencies but i'm not too clued up on that sorta stuff!

Current System:

Gigabyte GA-x58a-ud3r Mobo
Intel i7 930 @ 2.8Ghz
3 x 2GB RAM @ 1066mhz
600w xClio psu
2TB Corsair Green HD

Cheers for any advice :)

if you have a x58 motherboard (socket 1366), then you will want to be sure to get 3 sticks, or six stick of ram so you can utilize tri channel with the memory. if you use 2 or 4 sticks, you will drop the memory down to dual channel, which is less performance. I would go with 1600mhz or higher. it will make a bit of a difference.

But a RAM upgrade will be noticeable, but not earth shatteringly different. If you really need more than 8GB you'd know it.

You'll get more performance by purchasing a small SSD for your OS.

But if you plan on adding a GPU or overclocking you'd be advised to replace your PSU.

Thanks for the replies, I forgot to mention I have an EVGA Geforce GTX 670, would a PSU upgrade make any difference (performance wise) Its just that it feel a little sluggish compared to when I first built it

like stated above, I agree that you will get most satisfaction and overallperformance to invest in a ssd. will get rid of that sluggynish your talking of, and will remain a better performer, longer.
