Hi guys. As you see on the topic name i want to reinstall windows 7 on my pc and to replace it with 64 bit version.. I have a legit windows 7 os! My question is can i use the same register key as i ve registered the 32 bit version? And where can i find the key on my pc to activate the win 7 64 bit version? Is this possible? All ideas are welcomed!!

Yes you can. Start , right click computer (then properties). the key is there. You better write it down somewhere. put it with the original disc. it should be there with the disc anyway. must be some kind of book with it. write it down there.

Thanks Tremmor! Have you tried this mate? I mean is my first time installing a new os on my pc. And i dont want destroy the legit windows. How sure this thing is?

I have not but its your disk. 32 or move to 64bit will not be a diff.
Read this at Microsoft and what to expect.

You can use the Upgrade option during Windows 7 installation, which preserves your files, settings, and programs, only if you're currently running a 32-bit version of Windows Vista and you want to upgrade to the 32-bit version of Windows 7. Similarly, if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, you can only perform an upgrade to a 64-bit version of Windows 7. For more information, go to Upgrading to Windows 7: frequently asked questions on the Windows website.

If you want to move from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or vice versa, you'll need to back up your files and choose the Custom option during Windows 7 installation. Then, you'll need to restore your files and reinstall your programs. For more information about performing a custom installation, see Installing and reinstalling Windows 7*.

I would also back all data up that is of value to you on an external hard drive or flash drive before trying this upgrade. Better to be safe than sorry.

Naaaa.......changing key is mostly if not all related to hardware. Change your motherboard or a biggie is video card. its a trigger.

@hjahmad. You mean you already have win 7 32 and tried to upgrade to 64 bit and the key didnt work for you? Hmm, this makes me worry a bit. I just want a legit product! And to buy another windows 7 is to waste money! For sure i will back up my data guys as i have an external hdd 500gb. But at this point i'm thinkin to buy another hdd and to make it partitions and to try install win 7 64 bit. Its just an idea.

well you still have a chance. my case was a bit difference. i didnt realize till it was too late. I had vista ultimate 32 and wanted to upgrade to 7. and i used the student upgrade thing that microsoft has and i got 7 pro 64. and since it cant upgrade from vista ultimate 32 to 7 pro 64, i went and did a fresh install for the 7 pro 64. but, the serial number they gave me was for the upgrade only and fresh install didnt work. so now i have an extra 7 pro 64 bit lying around that im trying to get rid of and put towards 7 ultimate. my issue was going using an upgrade key for a fresh install.
the reason im assuming that you will have trouble is cause of how specific microsoft has been. ive never seen anything indicating that 7 is sold with 32 and 64 bits on one disk or that one key will work for the other. if they sell the discs seperatly, i dont see them giving out dual function keys. even when i was doing my fresh install, i dont remember seeing an option to select 32 or 64. and if you need to get a new install disc, youll be getting a new key too.

I upgraded with Win7 Pro. i also had an option for 32 or 64bit. The computer was a build though, not an oem. I also did a wipe and not an upgrade. They have talked about this in the forum many times if your interested. an how to do it. not sure about the oem though. that may be an issue.

@Tremmor. I have the disc win 7 but i need some help to install it. When the installer will ask me which version to install 32 or 64 bit? To be clear i had the iso win7 and i made it as bootable the iso file it was 2.34gb is this the regular size?

By the way what OEM it is? I see the OEM on my pc. How you guys think to get a new hdd and to make some partitions then to make a dual boot win 7 one at 64 and the other at 32 bit. It will cost me but it worth it right guys? I'm thinkin to get another TB on my pc. Lol

Alek--I have done this before. I won a 32x win 7 cd through lenovo and i just used my buddys 64x cd. The key that i was provided with worked. I had win 7 32x installed prior to this too.

I did reformat though when in went to 64x

ALEKSDKS, your question is interesting using the disc with 32 and 64 bit partition. If your hd was big enough the one hd will work fine. Best to wait and see who else replies. lots of knowledgeable people here. more than i. i know they will ask what size is your hd. best to post now and wait.

Tremmor, i have 1Tb hdd on my pc. But on this disk i have installed the current windows 7, and i cannot make any new partition on it i'm afraid that the disk will format itself during partition or something. I cannot risk!

And the back up data thing is just annoying! Better to buy a new hdd. If i have two hdd by 1tb each one is that a problem for my pc? I mean the power and voltages, will they need upgrade?
