Win 7, two ISP's, only one works

Greetings,

I have a unique problem, at least it is to me.

We live in a very remote place and our internet options are limited. We have a satellite ISP, Hughesnet ( which is not connected to our network) and a LOS service which our network uses.

We just bought a new tower with Win7, 64 bit.

It connects to the web via Hughesnet. But when we unplug Hughesnet and plug the networked LAN cable in to the PC, it says there's no cable and won't connect... at all...

I have reinstalled the driver, and have had Linksys tech support try and solve this but they where stumped as well...

Anyone have any ideas?

Can you explain what the LOS is? Never heard of it before. If your machine doesn't detect a cable then either the cable from the LOS is bad or the port that you are attached to at the LOS is bad or just a bad LOS. But like I said, what is an LOS?

Thanks for the reply johnb35. Sorry, I assumed it was a common terminology...
LOS is Line Of Sight. It bounces through a series of radios to reach us out in the boondocks... AAMOF, I'm using it right now...on my laptop.

All cables are tested and working fine, btw. What is puzzling is that when we physically hook up the Hughesnet cable, it works fine. But when we switch to the LOS service, nada. The troubleshooter says there is no cable at all.

I can't explain why it works on the laptop but not the windows 7 machine. Maybe you need certain network settings entered?

FWIW, I made a test cable and connected directly from the LOS modem to the new computer and it gave a log in screen for the ISP. Called the ISP and they said not to fill it in, that it's got to be something between the router and the computer.

The router is a Linksys EA2700.

Maybe the port on the router is bad? I'm assuming you have a 4 port router and have 2 lan ports used up?

Solved!

Well it usually is the simplest things, but if you don't know what to do, it's an almost insurmountable obstacle.

From another forum: "If you go into the nics properties and the advanced tab see if speed and duplex is set to auto. If it is set it to 10mb and full duplex and save the settings."

Went there, did that, problem solved...

That is RARELY the issue.Happened to me ONLY one time in my entire life.
What kind of the router is that lol...
Windows OS usually configures settings automatically and it should work.
UNLESS if you went directly in the router options and messed something up there.

By the way...did they give you the USER NAME and PASSWORD for the router just in case if you EVER need to configure some settings in the router?

Did you even read the thread?
