The screen saver does not work, I adjusted it on the control panel but the computer is turning off to stand by after 3 min. I have a lap top Toshiba L675

IIRC it sounds like you have to adjust the power settings in your control panel. There should be an option for "standby after x minutes."

Or you can simply disable the stand by to occur automatically.I do it that way because I hate when the stand by occurs in ANY time because I usually do important work and stand by is the last thing I need when I am in the middle of programming the software lol.

Agreed. Go ahead and adjust some settings in the Power Settings section in Control Panel. You can also find it in the notification area on the taskbar by the clock -- just click on the battery symbol and open Power Settings from there. Keep in mind that if you tend to change your Power Scheme (or whatever they call it...) that your adjustment of your laptop going to Standby will be changed. Make sure you blanket all the power schemes that you use with the same Standby settings if you don't want it standing by on you under different power schemes.

I don't know why anyone uses a screensaver these days. In older CRTs they were necessary because an image left on the screen too long would actually burn in to the screen and it's ghost would be permanently etched on the screen.

Modern CRTs and LCDs don't have the same problem. Instead of a screensaver, I set the power options to power off the screen after x minutes which will save a bit on the electric bill.
