Win Media Player Prog V9 Problem

greetings,

....i struggled to find the correct place to ask this so, here goes. i have win xp pro sp 1&2 and have un-installed media player that came with that operating system because i thought it just plain sucks! i installed win media player 9 in it's place.

...I DO NOT WANT TO RUN ANY OTHER VERSION AT THIS TIME NOR DO I WANT TO RUN ANOTHER PROGRAM OR A SUBSTITUTE IN IT'S PLACE.

.....if i click on ANY video to watch (mpeg, etc) sometimes i will hear only the audio and no video. this causes me to have to double click in the media window for the video to appear.

......further, when i have that video up, it will sometimes cut out and i have to click in it as above.

.......is there a "timer" issue in this program as i thought i heard someone say or is there a patch i can download to fix this?...i want to "drive image" this computer but, can't do it until this problem is fixed.

.......any help would be appreciated and thanks again!

uninstall what you have and install wmp 10 and afterwards download the divx codec at www.divx.com and download the play software. that should hopefully fix your problems

Maybe you should try Windows Media Player 10:

Or, if you want to try the beta, get it at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspx

So why would you have Windows Media Player 9 on an XP machine that sounds like it's new? Your computer should have come with it as it is a Windows component.

I don't *really* see why anyone would want Windows Media Player 9? It's the worst Windows Media Player I know of after the one that shipped with 95.

Then just try downloading the divx codec and see if that helps. if not, you'll need to format and reinstall XP but i've seen the divx codec fix a lot of video problems.

....whom said it was a dvd codec problem???..the problem is with ALL video extensions..mpg, etc...

.....i think the formatting and re-installation of xp is the wrong way to go!...i uninstalled win media player that came with xp and installed ver 9...

okay then. but one last piece of information that might help you or not...http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/9series/default.aspx This site says that version 9 is no longer available for XP. It might be saying that there are issues with it or whatever but....All we did was try to help you out.

...well, i had downloaded it when it came out at two different times and i am an relatively sure it did not have any issues that i am aware of....

..i also realize that people "tried" to "help me out" but, i have an issue when people tell me to do something other then what i asked or queeried about as in upgrade this or similar...oh well, looks like i stumped the forum!
