win XP reload problems

I formatted and reloaded my wife's computer. The screen resolution is set at 1024/768 in "Settings" and "Stretch" in the Desktop section. The appearance on the monitor is stretched to fit the screen and is distracting. There should be another setting that I don't have for her monitor. I've tried working through the "Display" file in the control panel without any success. Any attempt to lower the DPI makes things smaller. What's missing here?
Thank you
Ol' SeaPick

Are you looking to get a better resolution?

You said you reloaded XP. Did you reinstall the drivers for the machine? It sounds like you haven't installed the video driver.

Right clock on MY COMPUTER>MANAGE>DEVICE MANAGER and tell me if anything has a yellow question mark next to it.

Thank you for your response. The resolution is stretching the image to the side. The "Settings" option offers nothing that matches the screen size. Yes, there is a yellow question mark in the Device Manager...also on the audio. I used the Dell XP reload disc. I also have the drivers and utilities disc. I've run both discs as well as using The Wizard. The Wizard can't find the drivers on either disc, even if I tell it the drive on which the discs are stationed. I also tried downloading the drivers for the monitor from the Dell site. They send them in a Zip file, but from there I don't know how to install it into the system files. Frustrating!
Service Pack 2 & 3 are installed.
Thanks again
The old Seapick

Do you have any listings under display adapter? What model of dell is this?
LOL, watch the shrinking ol' Seapick :o
I stuffed the drivers and utilities disc back in the machine and headed for the driver section...guess what? There's an "extraction" button there. Extracted the necessary files and no more yellow question marks.
I think I assumed it would self extract or something........not!

Thank you Johnb35 for sending me in the right direction. Your efforts are much appreciated. :) Do I feel dumb??
